The Truth IMO - AMA

I’m a senior in MCPS. I took 12 APs. I’m a three season athlete. I got in ED to my dream school (top 20...) with playing the college admissions “game”. I didn’t push myself to my limits. The hardest part about the workload is staying off your phone (and AP Bio lol). 50% rule and 10% for homework makes it pretty much guaranteed you can’t fail a class as long as you do the homework. Why doesn’t MCPS push their students? The only kids I know truly struggling in hard classes are my RM IB friends. The only thing challenging for me and my W school peers is time management. Where does this come from? Why don’t our schools push us to be our best?

1. Your experience is not universal.

2. The goal of public education is a minimum standard of education for all members of society.

OP, I'll answer your question. People need to learn self motivation. If MCPS pushed everyone hard, people would not develop intrinsic motivation which is more important to long term success than actual skill. You should thank them.

If i see my kids on their phone after dinner, I take it away. My kids won't end up robotrons.
