Present for Daycare Teacher Who is Leaving?

One of the main teachers in my DS' class is leaving. DS has only been at this daycare for 3 months (used to have a nanny), but this teacher has been truly amazing at helping him get adjusted, and I want her to know she is appreciated. We feel particularly sad because she has been with the daycare for such a long time now - seems like there are some administration problems that are causing her to leave. Anyway, I know the answer is often "cash" and I'm happy to give that, but it seems like an odd going away present.

We do gift baskets for our daycare teachers with a couple of gift cards, some treats and a card (this is coordinated with other parents)

She is leaving mid year due to admin problems? That doesn’t sound like a committed teacher to me. How do you leave your kids mid year and say you care about them? You are a teacher. This isn’t Starbucks where you are giving coffee cups to people. These are kids with little hearts that love fully. No reason for her to leave except her own self. I bet if you dig with admin, you will find that out. In any event, a small gift card would be fine.

Teaching is no different than any other job. They have to lookout for themselves too and don't have to stay employed somewhere they are unhappy just for the kids.

Daycare doesn't have a mid-year the way a school does.

There are many reasons a teacher might be leaving, like moving. It could be that working there is a nightmare. Don’t judge unless you know. Did you ask her why she is leaving?
