I want to go to Georgetown but...

I am drawn to nearly everything about Georgetown. Urban campus, broad range of LA classes, small class sizes, strong school culture, internship opportunity, etc. But I need to get out of DC. I was born and raised in the district. Parents and both sets of grandparents (all of whom are rather invested in my life shall we say) live here. Kisses to everyone but I need to be in a different city. What schools are similar? I’ve started looking at Emory, Barnard, Rice if that helps. I need some other suggestions though.

What majors/specific programs most interest you? That's crucial before anyone can really advise you. We can say that school X has features similar to Georgetown's but it's moot if school X doesn't have the specific fields of study you want.

If you're looking for a general liberal arts education and aren't decided on a major, that's totally fine (my DD is an undeclared student at a LAC) but is there anything academic that your Georgetown-like college really needs to have?

Boston College

Fordham is a step down academically, but hits a lot of what you are asking about

Villanova

My daughter really liked Georgetown too, but had the same desire to attend school away from home. The schools she applied to were Tulane, Vandy, Wash U, Loyola University in Chicago, DePaul, Boston College, UMD and UMBC (our state schools), Richmond, Rochester, and Marquette. Ended up at Tulane with some merit $$$.

I should add that obviously several of these schools are a notch (or several) below Georgetown. But everyone needs safeties and the schools I listed seemed similar in feel to Georgetown (urban, strong school culture, midsized - minus UMD, some Jesuit/Catholic)

I would also add Rice, Northwestern, Villanova, and Fordham.

Eh. Georgetown is full of self righteous stuck up kids. Definitely choose another school. How about Washington University in St. Louis or Duke?
