Anyone do multiple retrieval cycles before FET with CareFirst MD insurance?

For those of you with the CareFirst marketplace insurance based on the Maryland mandate (e.g., HMO Gold), has anyone had success with doing multiple retrieval cycles before transferring embryos? I'd like to batch test the embryos since we have to do PGS and PGD testing, and I know they allow up to 3 cycles, but will they pay for 2 cycles without a transfer in between if a mature embryo was cultured?

Yes I did back to back cycles and they covered both. Then we did an FET.

Awesome! Did they request any documentation/justification of why you didn't do the FET after the first one?

We have carefirst, blue choice ppo. Not sure if its the same thing but from what i was told, if you dont have a transfer our insurance didn't count as full cycle. We had 4 cycles but only 1 transfer at the end so they didn’t count first 3 cycles.

Thanks for the info! Did you have embryos that you could've technically transferred prior to the 4th cycle? Did they ask for justification why you didn't transfer them? I'm hoping to stockpile some so there's some left over for baby #2 but don't want to risk them not covering a cycle when I could've technically transferred.

No. But they didn’t cover anything related to storing the embryos or PGS testing.
