| Heard a rumor that there are no American flags displayed on campus. Urban legend or true? |
There wasn't one in the gym the last time I was in there years ago. When I commented on the lack of the Star Spangled banner being played before the boys varsity basketball game, he said "No flag, either". And I looked around and there wasn't one. |
| That glad is offensive to some people so this is actually a good thing. |
| The flag is offensive to some I meant. |

This is fairly standard in Quaker schools - most do not display the flags and central guides for Friends’ schools advise against it.
And since it will undoubtedly come up, it’s a matter of specific spiritual beliefs, not partisan or political considerations. |
| Looks like they can imagine there are no countries. Wonder if they can imagine there are no religions. |
| "The flag is offensive to some people." Then leave the country please |

Do people ever think about how strange it is to play the Star Spangled Banner before sporting events? The original event where it was played (during WWI) sounds like it was entirely appropriate and meaningful ~ but why continue to do it? We don't play the national anthem before movies, plays, concerts, and speakers, so why is it some sacred thing for sporting events?
Although I did see a military color guard open the NIH Jefferson lecture at the Kennedy Center when Anna Deavere Smith gave it. It was very odd but I'm assuming this is something they do every time. Here's a link to a story about the first time this was done at a sporting event: https://www.history.com/news/why-the-star-spangled-banner-is-played-at-sporting-events |
| Well then that's about the limit of the "Quakerism" on campus and with the families. |
| Quaker’s don’t fly American flags |
There has never been one one either of the campuses. Nothing new. |
too.

No, thanks. |
| Trolls: Please try harder... |
| Lol. Sidwell is about as Quaker these days as my morning oatmeal. |
