Bay Area Salary vs DC Metro

We are looking to move closer to family. I currently make $150k, we live in Burke (saved for a while so had $200k DP so mortgage only $400k) and DW stays home.

We are looking to move for a job in Bay Area where I would work in Santa Clara, the offer is $275k, and wondering how this compares. Housing seems pretty expensive so likely will have a commute?

How lateral a move is this, where could we live on a $275k salary?

We have family nearby which is part of motivation.

Housing costs are insane out there these days. Where were you thinking of living? How many kids? How old? Schools aren’t that great either. All my friends out there use catholic schools all the way through.

Family not providing housing.

I am willing to commute up to an hour, just need good schools.

So I guess our housing budget wood be $1.1 M, with $400k DP and $275k salary?

I recommend Los Gatos. There are definitely affordable options that hi to 10/10 schools.
