Yes, I do happen to be very content with my hair. Please stop trying to sell me a straightening iron after I have already said no 3 times. I don't care about how amazing the Brazilian Blowout is...if I want to wear my hair straight, I will go back to the person who can't take no for an answer. To my family members and friends with curly hair who have used (insert process name here), good for you! I didn't ask about it, why must you tell me I should try it? Did you even think I may possible be happy with my hair?
If I want my hair straight, I can make it straight. If I want corkscrew curls, I can blow dry it. If I want waves, I let it air dry. I have options and am thankful for them. I have never been told my hair is beautiful when it's straight, but I get comments all the time about how pretty it is when it is in it's natural state. I have nothing against people who choose to straighten their hair...I just have an issue with people assuming I don't like my curls! I can't even begin to count how many times this has happened and I just needed to vent. Vent over...thanks! |
I don't blame you, OP! My hair is very straight, and I've always wished for naturally curly hair - I think it's beautiful!

I hear you! Why does everyone feel the need to fight nature, and assume everyone else wishes they had straight hair too!
Sincerely, A Happy Curly Girl |
Good for you!! As a girl with super straight hair who has always deeply admired curls and waves of all kinds, I have asked friends who straighten their curly wavy hair "why, why why???" To each her own but, it is wonderful to love what you were born with!

I love my curly hair, too!
And to those annoying ladies selling straighteners at the kiosks in the mall: No, I don't want to try straighten my hair. And yes, I like my curls. (I do like straight hair, on other people. Just not myself because it would be a pain and I look better with my hair curly.) |
| Sigh. What wouldn't I do for curly hair? |
| Now I want to know- my hair dries wavy too. Does that mean I could blow-dry it to get real curls? Share the secret. |
| I have curly hair too. I wish I could find a true style for it! It seems like my options are long and curly, or short and curly. In my last effort at style, my stylist cut some bangs into it so I looked like Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing. Not exactly what I was going for. |
Go to Andrea at IPSA. She understands curls!!! |

OP here. Glad to know others love their curls too! To the 7:26 poster...I think it all depends on what type of hair you have. There are soooo many different types of curls! I will tell you what I do though. I only use shampoo 2x a week, but condition daily. Then I use a wee bit of Kerastase Oleo Curl (expensive, but a teeny amount goes a long way). Comb it through your hair. Then I use Loreal Springing Curl mousse and blow dry for my springy curls.
However, my friend who is my hair stylist taught me a GREAT technique. When your hair is wet, after you have applied your product, take small sections of your hair and twist around your fingers. Then blow dry. It seems to work really well on most type of curls! To 8:49...I used to feel the same as you until I found someone who knew curls. You have to keep trying new people until you find someone you like. I went to someone once and said I want layers and long bangs...he said, um you have curly hair, I won't do that. I finally went to my friend, she did what I asked and I will NEVER go to another hair stylist. It can be difficult to find someone who is really good with curls. |

I'm 21:33. For the PP looking for a stylist, go to www.naturallycurly.com
They have a whole database with hairstylists with reviews by curly haired people. That is how I found my hair stylist. They also have a database with curly hair products and ratings by users. By trial and error, I found products that work for my hair. FWIW, I also have my hair either "short and curly" or "long and curly". But the style is better because of a good stylist and the look of the curl is better because of the products. |
| PP here. I meant my hair is better compared to how it was when I was younger and didn't know about good stylists nor good products. |
| I love my curls too. I think hair that's always blown dry and flat ironed looks fried. A good cut is essential though, or you can end up looking like Rosanne Rosanna Danna. |
| I think it's just that straight hair is in style at the moment, and because hair straighteners are more readily available. If you're really happy with your curls, then I think it shouldn't annoy you so much. I myself still have a love hate relationship with my curls. I'm too lazy to straighten them, but I do think straighter hair looks better on me. Must be better about trying new products. |
For these reasons, straight hair will be in style for a long time to come. My hairdresser loves to say that the hardest/rarest things to have are always the most stylish/desirable. Thus long, glossy, thick straight blonde hair. Or a Barbie Doll body with huge boobs. Go figure. I think some people look gorgeous with curls though. Like everything else it depends on the individual. I did the Peter Coppola keratin straightening and I love it but I'm afraid I'm going to die of cancer now. Not so sure if it's all worth it in the end. |
