Ideas for swim lessons for a 7 year old in Friendship Heights or nearby? Tried Wilson Aquatic but they don't have lessons at a time when we can go

We have done lessons at AU through Nation’s Capital Swing Club and have been very happy.

AU is great. Last year my 7 and 11 year olds did the stroke development program and now they are strong swimmers. It really gave them confidence and conditioning. They have a beginner swim program too which is great for beginner swimmers. Go there.

PP who recommended the learn to swim program. A you talk more about the stroke development program? My daughter is really interested, but I’m worried that it is too much for her. She can swim a length of the pool, but my u see standing is that thre developmental program is closer to swim team practices (without the competitions). Is that right? Thank you!

Sure! My 11 year old last year was not a strong swimmer despite lots of private swim classes. She had the basics down and could tread water for the most part. So I put her in with her younger sister who is a bit more gung ho with athletics, to get stronger by nailing down their breaststroke, freestyle, getting comfortable swimming backwards, jumping in the deep end, swimming across the pool. The program is developed for those that may want to go on a swim team. But it is also for people like us that just want to make sure our kids are confident in the water under various conditions. It really strengthened them and after several practices and lots of repetition, their brains finally got wired with the various strokes. Whereas before they were slow, uncoordinated and choppy. It was well worth it for us. After a year I now feel very confident with them around any body of water.

Thank you! We were thinking about it, but I wasn’t sure if it was more for swim team kids. My kids love swimming but are not at all
competitive about it. The developmental program sounds like it would be a great fit.
