| What are people’s thoughts about Stokes East End Campus? |
| I went to an open house and was pleased with the presentation by the admin. Then we got to tour the school and I was horrified by what I saw. The classrooms and hallways were chaotic. There was a child who had walked out of the classroom, and it took the teacher a while to notice. I saw children hitting each other without being redirected. I heard an adult speak to a child with a negative tone. I witnessed a a teacher attempting to line up her class, but the children were all over the place and the line never happened. I had heard good things about the school, but after what I saw I won’t even be putting it at the bottom of the list. |

Read the recent read thread about the current litigation against Stokes East end in regards to the teachers treatment of some students. But it’s not just the teachers but also the failure of leadership to deal with the issues appropriately and deny things.
Enough said. |
What is the name of the thread? I wasn’t able to find it. |
Thank you. This is helpful. When was the open house? I looked online and on DCPS’s open house list and did not see any listed. |
You need to call the schools and ask about open house dates. Some are notoriously bad about posting them - and DCPS wouldn’t know when a Stokes open house was happening. |
| The kids are next to a high school in one of the worst wards in the city in regards to drugs, crime, gangs, etc.....It would never even be a consideration for our family. |
Do you not realize that actual people live there? There is crime all over this city, and some people can’t afford to live somewhere else. What makes you think that the students would be unsafe being in the school building? The temporary location is right next to a rec center and is pretty difficult to enter. This comment just seems like one big micro-aggression. |
Correction: Ward 7 is one of the best wards in the city, because we have a lot fewer ignorant morons like you. Also, some of those high schoolers even came over and performed a puppet play for the kids and it was.... Fine! |

It is true that crime is higher in that ward. It’s also true that some parents would not send their 3 year old there. You may but others make different choices. |
Actually you sound ignorant with the name calling. And no, when it comes to crime, drugs, and gangs, with those parameters, it is not one of the best wards in the city. It is one of the worst and everyone knows it. |
I really don't think that Stokes created "East End" to serve those who do not live in the east end, so it really doesn't matter what you think. You can't really expect to talk trash about an entire ward and not offend the people who live there (who are not uniformly criminals and fools by the way). It's also kinda racist. Some people. |
Right, according to the PP's logic there would be no school in all of Ward 7 that could be good enough to send a kid to. He/She looked at google maps, saw a HS down the block from the school and assumed it was full of gangs and drug users, some view of the world there. As someone who has a kid in Stokes East End, Spanish immersion, and is at the school every day, my family is very happy with the school and the entire location is clean and trouble free. Another PP said something about unruly halls during a visit, but that is not what I've seen being there every day. The school has a great staff, the kids line up every morning, sing the school song and line up to go to their great classrooms, the afterschool program is very well done as well. If you are interested, please do not take anything you read on this forum as gospel and go visit the school to see for yourself. I'd be surprised if this school doesn't become something really great as it fills out. What a clown show this board is as usual. |
