Mondo Grass easy to grow?

Is Dwarf Mondo grass easy to grow in the DMV? Thinking about around patio with a Southern exposure, well drained.

fine, not as fast growing as lirope, likes filtered sun.

Yes. But it grows slowly so you'll either need to spend a lot up front on the plugs or wait several years for it to fill in. I'm doing the latter and splitting the mounds every 2 years.

Full southern exposure will be too much for that and anyway-with that kind of light so many other great options available

If you want easy to grow, think: Right plant, right place.

Mondo grass's natural habitat is Asian woodland. It wants part to full shade where it will be evergreen south of Zone 6-7. It will not be happy or easy in zone 7, full sun Southern exposure.

Dwarf mondo grass takes a long time to grow. It’s gets half sun and it’s been 3 years. The have about doubled in size. If you space the out you will need to weed them a lot in the summer. It’s more trouble than regular grass! But our space is large. (10x20’) so maybe we should have gone with more plugs. 150.

I have it in a well-mulched bed under a young crepe myrtle that’s in full sun. These have proven to be perfect conditions. Over 1-1/2 growing seasons it increased at least 30 percent in volume, maybe more. It’s been about as low maintenance as one can get.
