I am researching and find it puzzling that so many daycares dont publish tuition on their websites. instead you have to give out your phone, email and address just to find out the cost. It feels manipulative. Presumably the cost is the same for everyone in the classroom, why do you need all my personal info to disclose that? to sell the data? I either can or cannot afford your center, calling or emailing me doesnt really change that, why waste the time?
Having said all this, what are you all paying for an under 12 mo infant in suburban Maryland? |
Yes, they are manipulating you. |
Do millennials not understand that you can just pick up the phone and call? You don't have to do everything online?
Also, $1500-$2200 for an infant in this area. |
$1,750 for an infant in Rockville in a daycare center.
They are all expensive. I suspect the ones that don't post rates want you to tour and convince you their center is worth the extra couple hundred bucks a month before you decide it is too expensive. |
$2800 month for infant care in courthouse Arlington |
That's on the low end. I just checked the 2020-2021 rates for my kids' daycare and infant care runs $2400 for 9-6. This is also in Rockville. |
$1850 ish in suburban VA (Alexandria) |
Bright horizons in north Bethesda is approx. $2550/m. |
Another thing that is never posted are the additional costs - the registration fee, the yearly, renewal fee, etc.
And when your kid gets a bit older, some daycares will offer "enrichment" activities (a mini soccer class or kids' yoga, for example) during the day, that is optional, but 95% of the class sign-up/all of your kid's friends sign up for so you sorta get suckered into yet another fee. |
Yes, during our search this was definitely on the low end, though I will say we are happy with it. The others I saw ranged from $1,800-$2,500 per month. In my search in Rockville I generally found that you can find lower-cost daycare centers if they are located in some kind of public facility like a public school. |
Privately run daycare facilities near downtown DC are all around $2400 (BrightHorizons, Kindercare, etc).
Daycares associated with federal government agencies run from $1600-$1900. Broadcasters BCDC in Tenleytown is $2400 St Albans in Tenleytown is $2K Bright Horizons near Georgetown waterfront is nearly $2800 |
