| Go to a skatepark |
Oh, I'm sure that would go over well... an adult approaching a teen/kid asking for a money exchange. |
It would be fine if you're cool about it. Don't ask a little kid. Ask someone 16+. |

Don't buy a used skateboard. They aren't exactly expensive new. You can put together something pretty ok for like $100. Besides there are a lot of wear items on a skateboard that just are going to need replacing anyway.

That is way more than I want to spend on something that I think my kid will only use a handful of times. Are the $40 ones ok? |
Try something like this https://shop.ccs.com/blank-maple-skateboard-complete |
| My son’s came from a yard sale. $5, works for his purposes. |
Good recommendation. CCS has been around forever. |
Yes. Buy this if it is for a child and only going to be used a few times. My older son has a custom skateboard that was a lot more and it is much better quality. My younger child wanted one and I knew it wouldn’t be used much so we bought this. It is fine for occasional use and a fraction of the price. There are different animals to choose from. https://www.amazon.com/Krown-Wolf-Skateboard-White-7-5/dp/B071L1WR75/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?keywords=krown%2Bwolf%2Bskateboard&qid=1578835199&sprefix=krown%2Bwolf&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRUw0SEExMkdHQ1gzJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjcwOTE5MzA3RUpNV0tHTDRHTSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTc2NDc5WFhEMTlOQldWV0w4JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfcGhvbmVfc2VhcmNoX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU&th=1 |
| Heads-up, I now have a teen who skates regularly and he wears them out. Like the deck straight-up breaks in half, or the tail/nose gets shredded. He replaces them himself when this happens, but this is part of why you don't find too many used ones floating around for sale. Older kids tend to give younger kids used boards when they upgrade if they're still usable. |
| OP, have you never heard of the Google machine???? |

As people said - skateboards are disposable.
Decks, wheels and bearings are not too expensive. I would head to skatepark and have your kid scooter. Meet some parents and see if you can find any leads. I have two boarders and we have at least 5 complete boards and tons of parts laying around....the width of the board and height of the trucks changes on what they are into....I would sell their used, good quality boards for like 50....but still suggest new grip tape (like $20) - total pia to put on when a new half decent deck with grip is under 50. Cheap boards from target are ok for driveway - going to a skatepark with them is a bad idea. |
