Direct Flights from DCA to Somewhere WARM

Anonymous
We found an old Washington Post chart that shows direct flights to the Bahamas, Bermuda and Puerto Rico. Other ideas?

We're looking to stay somewhere NICE without our kids for 3-4 nights.

Does it have to be DCA? Dominican Republic is close, and affordable. Very nice places there.

Thanks! Would you recommend any particular resorts there? We're open to splurging a bit, especially if we can use FF miles for free flights . . . .

I know all the resorts are in Punta Cana...I can't remember where we stayed, but if you search online for Punta Cana resorts you should be able to find some nice ones (4 and 5 stars).

I use this tool to find direct flights for business travel.

We did 4 nights without kids at the Westin St. Maarten - it's a quick connection through Charlotte on USAir from DCA. Great island too. We loved it.

Has anyone done Sanibel Island / Ft. Myers in Florida? It's direct from DCA.

Where would you stay for 3 nights without the kids?

I went to a wedding on Captiva Island (it's connected to Sanibel)... it's pretty quiet down there, if you like the quiet/calm/peaceful/relaxing kind of vacation. But the water is cold in January. It was warm enough for the heated pool. But I think I'd rather go elsewhere.

What about St. Johns?

I learned about this great site, which really deserves a post of its own, called skyscanner.net. You just put in your point of departure (which can be as vague or as specific as you want) and it pulls up all the places you can fly to from there. So if I put in "any Washington" airport, direct flights only, it tells me that I can leave Washington for as little as $135, and here are the places I can go. (Orlando is one.)

Not a specific answer to your question, but a fantastic timesuck!

Not DCA - but Virgin America is offering really cheap flights to LA right now from Dulles - $99 o/w. Also to San Fran - but that's not as warm.

There are direct flights to Puerto Rico from Dulles. If you want to splurge, the Ritz in San Juan is very nice. Pool, beach, spa, casino...
