I know there have been multiple audiobook threads, but I haven't seen one with this focus. I am looking for audiobooks where you felt the audiobook performance made the book better than it might have been otherwise. As a few examples:
The Help - the audiobook is much better than the written book, IMO. The characters seem to have more depth thanks to amazing narrators. Circe - Already a great book, but the audio was one of the best narrators I have encountered House of Broken Angels - Has an author-narrator who is amazing. Any others? |
| Born a Crime - hearing the accents and languages in Trevor Noah's own voice |
OP here. Yes! This is exactly what I mean, and I agree. Born a Crime is an amazing audiobook. |
| Ready Player One - Wil Wheaton does a great job |
| 11/22/63 - I started reading, but it’s a monster of a book. The audio is just wonderful. |
|
Daisy Jones and the Six
Lincoln in the Bardo I think both of those were far better audiobooks than print. |
|
The Harry Potter books |
|
Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
I think Chelsea Handler does a good job reading her books. |
| Heatburn by Nora Ephron is SO good on audio because Meryl Streep narrates. |
| 11/22/1963 was fabulous! Also Conviction by Denise Mina. |
Agreed. I hated reading them to/with my kids. The audiobooks are fantastic, though. |
| Talking to strangers |
| Becoming. You feel like Michelle Obama is talking to you directly. |
| Any that are by the comedienne/comedian and read by the author. Mindy Kaling, Ellie Kemper, Chelsea Handler, etc! |
OP here. Thank you for this and for the other poster who suggested 11/22/63. I would never have picked it otherwise. |
