Can anyone tell me what they think/know about Franklin Montessori on Connecticut Ave in DC? We are thinking about it for our 3 year old. I would greatly appreciate it. |
Families seem happy, though it was not for us (the classroom student/teacher ratio was too high, though in line with montessori). It is one of the competitive schools to get into. |
Current Franklin parent here. We love Franklin. Our child has been very happy there. PP is correct about ratio. It seems high, but is in keeping with Montessori method. The classrooms do function smoothly from what I have observed. The director is very good, as is the adminstrative staff. One complaint I hear is not much communication weekly or monthly about child's progress. I inquire about that individually and always get response from child's teacher. The outdoor space is lacking. They do take them to the local DC public park. We've been very pleased, overall. |
My DC also attends Franklin and we (and he) loves it. His teacher is wonderful and always very responsive to my emails and phone calls. I agree that the outdoor playground is small, but the kids go to Chesapeake Park to play. My son's class also goes on hikes each week at a nearby nature trail. He's so learning so much and having fun. I highly recommend it. |
Op here. Thanks so much for the info. We really liked it too. It seems to be a very nice, happy atmosphere for kids.
Have you heard anything about where many of the children end up and how helpful the school is in the application process for the next stage? Thanks again. |
I've heard good things, though my DC will spend one more year at Franklin before we apply to other schools. Personally, I know two kids that were recently accepted at Sheridan and Maret after leaving Franklin. Each year, Franklin hires Georgia Irvin to come and speak to parents whose children are moving on. The administration is very helpful. |
