Did anybody get email from Duke saying RA deadline is extended to Jan. 5th?

Anonymous
My DS got an email this morning saying Duke RA deadline is extended to Jan. 5th instead of Jan. 2. I searched online and didn't find any information. Is this a spam?

My kid got it, too. She isn’t applying, though. Is nothing on their site?

There is a message on the Duke website too.

Yup

I wonder if Duke didn’t get what it wanted with early applications

Most colleges don't turn off the Common App at the published deadline.

DD needs to email them tonight and also pick up the phone and call the admissions office as soon as it opens tomorrow morning, Jan. 2. She should point out this discrepancy clearly and briefly and ask for clarification on that call. Teens sometimes do not think to make an actual phone call to ask a very time-sensitive question, when sometimes a call is the fastest way to deal with a problem.

Of course she should check the admissions website again first thing tomorrow immediately before she phones, in case someone at Duke catches the discrepancy and fixes it overnight.

Before someone posts that admissions offices won't take calls--I can't say whether Duke's will or won't, but we dealt with two colleges' admissions offices via calls for similar issues and it was fine. Worth trying if she's getting truly conflicting information from official sources. She should be concise and ready to say exactly where on the web site it says 1/2 and when and from whom she got the e-mail with 1/5.

DC got 2 emails - one yesterday saying it was extended to 1/2 and then one today saying it was extended to 1/5.

We can’t help you with your other resolutions, but we can help with the first – Duke is extending its application deadline to Sunday, January 5 to give you more time to complete your application. Don’t wait to the last minute, though … apply today through Common Application or Coalition Application!

But do they accept what’s submitted late? And how late do they keep it open? DC submitted 2 min past deadline today.

We were 1.5 hour late for U Michigan on Nov1st, but still app was accepted as EA.
Submitted NYU 45 mins after deadline, it was accepted and fees processed

Yes. They will take applications for days. Admissions offices will also wait weeks and weeks for counselors and teachers to get stuff in. There are lots of instances where Larla adds a new school to her list after leaving school for the holidays. Their counselor will come into the office today to find dozens of “by the way, I applied to five more schools” messages.
