Angelcare Monitors (baby movement/breathing monitors)

Anonymous
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Angelcare Monitors or knows someone who has used them. I'm considering getting one (I am 36 weeks pg right now) but I know there is always a downside to any technology. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have one. The only downside I can think of is that you have to remember to turn off the monitor base when you pick your baby up out of the crib...or else the alarm sounds after 20 seconds or so! Other than that, I have no complaints. The sensor pad works very well under the crib mattress, the cord from the sensor to the monitor base is long so it can reach easily, and the receivers are shaped like angels and are cute.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions!

OP here. Thanks for your opinion. Which model did you get? Seems like there are a few of them. Does the monitor help new parent anxiety as it should? I guess that is the bottom line.

OP again. Can it be used with a bassinet or just a crib?

I have this model: http://www.amazon.com/B%C3%A9b%C3%A9Sounds-Angelcare-Movement-Monitor-Parents/dp/B0000E262S

As for helping with new parent anxiety, well, we use it for our third baby (didn't have it for our first two!). I was always getting up to check to see if our first two babies were breathing, etc. DH got the Angelcare monitor this time so I wouldn't be up and checking all the time.

And, we have a close friend who lost their baby to SIDS a few months back. So yes, it does help ease my anxiety about whether or not my baby is okay.

We used it in the co-sleeper (Arm's Reach) and now in the crib. It worked just fine under the co-sleeper's "mattress" as well as under the crib mattress.

Oh, I did think of one thing I didn't care for: the "ticking" sound that the monitor will make every time the baby moves. A nice thought, but it ticks at the monitor's base as well as at the receivers. Well, the monitor's base is in the baby's room! I didn't want it ticking in the same room where the baby slept, so we never used that feature.

OP here. Thanks for the tips! I know that most parents are constantly checking to see if their baby is breathing. We had a third trimester loss in my first pregnancy that has made me sufficiently anxious. Thanks again!
