| We're looking for good ideas for trips using the 4th grade national park pass. The SW is one we're thinking about, but would love to hear some other ideas. Trip would likely be 7-14 days and would need to happen during school breaks. |
| What is this pass? |
| SW is my favorite. Alaska is wow so amazing. Great Smokey Mountains. |

Our favorite three have been the 5 National Parks in Utah or the parks in Northern Arizona/Utah (Sedona, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon/Lake Powell/Horseshoe Bend, Zion). We are in Tucson right now and Saguaro Park has been a lot of fun if you can find an easy way to add that onto an Arizona trip. We also loved Jackson Hole (Grand Tetons) and Yellowstone.
Most of the park lodging opens up a year-18 months ahead of time so try to plan accordingly. We never do and still are able to find lodging but it's not always as convenient as the in park lodging. |
| Are travel costs a concern (ie, do you want to be driving distance?). This seems like a good excuse to do a national parks trip, but the cost of park entry (I think $25 for a family for a week at Yellowstone) isn't much relative to flying to, say, Utah. |
OP. We certainly don't have an unlimited budget, but we'd plan to fly to some of these parks. Although, we'd also love to hear about good experiences in driving distance too. |

Shenandoah is great for a weekend trip.
Yellowstone is great and can combine with grand Tetons. Could probably combine that with some others if you can do a 2 trip. Could also do something like Saguaro—Grand Canyon-Zion up to Vegas or saguaro—Joshua tree and fly out from San Diego. |

We used ours for Yosemite a couple of years ago. The ranger gave DD a form to fill out so that we didn’t have to pay the $30 entrance fee. She liked that.
We flew into Sacramento. It’s a couple of hours drive from there. Loved it. |
| We are using ours for Yosemite this year |
| Puerto Rico: two in OSJ, plus El Yunque. |
| Glacier is fantastic |

Black Hills of South Dakota has been our favorite and we've been to 64 parks.
There are at least 5 parks in a comfortalbe driving distance if you stay in Custer. Custer is very family friendly - just stay away from the Strurgis Rally |
| Last year we used the pass to visit the Grand Canyon on a spring break trip to Arizona and in the summer we used it in Acadia on a summer vacation to Maine. |
| St John US Virgin Islands |
