Very excited to be planning a quick trip to Madrid (3 days). Any suggestions on what to do would be hugely appreciated. Right now trying to book a hotel and would like to splurge on a great one, preferably with a suite. Any info appreciated...good or bad. Thanks!

They have a tradition of congregating at Plaza Del Sol at midnight of NYE and eating 12 grapes, one with each chime.

On NYE people go home for dinner with family and then come out again just before midnight. That means the city will seem empty and very few restaurants will be open. Make reservations for dinner. If you can wait to eat, all the restaurants will serve tapas after midnight.

If you're there with kids, there's a department store just off the Plaza Del Sol which has an electronic marionette show around 4pm. Not sure of the exact time. It is very weird.

Check the hours at the Prada. They close early, like 2pm, during the holidays.

You can buy tickets for the Prada at the Thiessen, with much shorter lines. When you go to the Prada, walk past the line of people and go directto the door.

We LOVED private tours we took in Madrid. The guides were smart, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. We got so much out of these that we would have missed without them. I highly recommend them and would sign up again in a heartbeat!
