Amoxicillin timing

Son (5) has strep throat. First dose of amoxicillin was at 2 pm today. Supposed to take it every 12 hours with food. How do we get on a better schedule with this? DH wants to give it to him with dinner tonight (so only 5 hours after previous dose). I want to wake him at 11 pm to give it then, but there is no way to get food in him at that time, he is way too groggy. Waiting til tomorrow morning seems too long. Any thoughts? And yes, we should have asked the doc at urgent care but no one thought of it at the time.

He can have a second dose tonight with dinner or at bedtime. Then do two normal doses tomorrow.

Well, we did the dose after dinner and he threw up an hour later. No idea if it was related to having the two doses so close together. Doing the dose on an empty stomach probably wouldn’t have gone any better. Oh well. Hopefully at least some of it made it into his system.
