I know, I know, so much more negative than the other post. But maybe it will help someone.
My boys loved to build forts, so I thought they would love the indoor tent I bought them. Nope. I guess it's the building that is the more important aspect of forts, not just having a place to hide away. |
For me it was the huge set of thomas trains and tracks santa brought last year. It sat in a tub for the better part of the year. BUT, just this month he got really in to it and it's been his main toy, so I guess I was just a year off on when to give (he's 4 now). |
One of those big piano keyboards that you walk on and it makes noise. Once they've walked over it a few times, it's just like, meh. |
Playmobil. Which I adored as a kid. But they really never liked it. |
Play kitchen and doll house. |
Another vote for Playmobil. So expensive, but hard to put and keep together. |
Ripstik - my kid tried it once or twice and never again.
|
Light up Razor scooter. Nope, hardly used. |
A playground and outdoor house thing. They love them at parks and other people's homes, but once they had their own...never used! |
My kid loves playmobil--so this is really a know your audience kind of thing. We had a couple small sets that we knew she was into before we bought more of them, so maybe start small?

DD was obsessed with play kitchens anytime we went somewhere with one. She played with one at our friends' house for over an hour straight! I bought her the IKEA one, assembled it, set it up with tons of cute little baskets of fake food, etc. She was excited at first but within a day it was abandoned and it still sits there taking up way more space than it deserves. But its' too "nice" of a toy for me to justify getting rid of it yet. Sigh. |
My kids were always just lukewarm on Magnatiles. And my daughter was never really into her Scandinavian wooden dollhouse (nor was my son when he inherited it). |
My kid loves, loves Playmobil but ignores Legos. |
Experience gifts always fall short with my kids |
Duplos around 3. Just not used at all. So we never really did Legos. Then suddenly a friend gave her a Disney princess LEGO set at 4.5 and she was obsessed. Still into themed legos 9 months later. The Harry Potter LEGO advent calendar appears to be her favorite thing she ever received. So sometimes it’s just about waiting... |
