CCPCS Schedule

Question for anyone there now.

I was looking at the schedule and it appeared that the only days closed are federal holidays, 2 weeks for winter break, a week for spring break and Emancipation day.

Is this correct? No teacher work days, training days, prep for parent teacher conferences?

If this is correct - serious question - how do the teachers do it?

they are closed for teacher training. perhaps it's not listed on the calendar you are looking at, but there are a few days sprinkled here and there. also, you'll notice that CCPCS opens a bit later than DCPS. i believe teachers have a lot of planning time in august.

almost forgot--CCPCS dismisses at 1:15 on wednesdays. i believe the teachers use the remainder of the day for planning.

thanks - I was not aware that they did early dismissal.

I assume CCPCS has aftercare. Is this accurate? Do they have aftercare when they have early dismissal?

yes, they have aftercare onsite. i believe the women who run the aftercare are also employees of CCPCS, but i am not 100% sure. the aftercare does start early on wednesdays.

Wednesday early dismissal is for teacher professional development. Sometimes that includes planning. In August, teachers are doing a variety of things- planning, participating in professional development and staff community building experiences- to name a few. There are Expedition Planning days, when teachers plan for the next expedition that students will engage in. There is aftercare (and very popular on Wednesdays), and both women that run it are also involved in the school.
