I’m 6 weeks along and already starting to feel queasy and nauseous, especially in the afternoon/evening. No vomiting yet. Please suggest your best OTC remedies for morning sickness. TIA |
Always snacking and staying as hyrdrated as you possibly can both help. I'm eating so many saltines and ritz crackers and its the worst but it's also helping me not puke. Also ice cold smoothies are magical. My nausea disappears as soon as I have one. I'm only 7.5 weeks though so maybe it'll still get worse for me. My nausea hit like clock work at 6 weeks and I've only actually puked once, but staving off the nausea from the time I wake up until about lunch time has been it's own form of misery.
Good luck!! |
Take 1/2 a tab of unisom at night. Take 25mgs of B6 three times a day (morning, lunch, night).
Real ginger ale. Not the fake stuff like Canada Dry. The real stuff. Diclegis from your doctor, which is not OTC, but is a better formula of the unisom/b6 and worked really well for me. I was nauseous until week 27 with my 2nd. It sucked. |
Wait a few months. That’s the only thing that works. |
Definitely B6 vitamins. I used vitamin water for it bc it was lemon flavored and I liked the smell/taste of lemony things a lot.
Diclegis works. But I felt sooooo drugged so I actually preferred OTC when possible. |
anything ginger, ginger drops, candies,,etc! |
Nothing over the counter ever worked for me. No reason to not ask your doctor for Zofran. It was the only thing that worked. |
For OTC remedies, the "homemade diclegis" combo of Unisom/B6 has worked great for me through 2 pregnancies. I take a full tab of Unisom at night, plus a half tab middle of the day during first trimester, then I was able to cut back to just a half tab at night once I got past about 12 weeks. Also, +2 to anything made with real ginger. Another thing that helped me was lemonade or lemon-flavored candy. Even just the smell of lemons seemed to help. |
This is another option if your nausea gets bad, just watch for potential side effect of constipation! |
eating small amounts of bland food (or even anything you can stomach) frequently even if you don't feel like it. an empty stomach makes it much worse. ginger ale, lemonade, other citrus juices were good for me. |
B6 and unisom, preggy pop drops or other hard candy, find whatever you can stomach and eat that on repeat. I also found that when I was constipated the nausea was worse, so I added metamucil and colace to my daily regimen as well. |
I had hyperemesis with my first pregnancy and nothing at all helped. With this 2nd pregnancy I had severe morning sickness begining at 6 weeks, the worst being between 9-13 weeks. After week 13 there has been an improvement. I am still nauseas everyday but it is more bearable. Some days are worse than others and I haven't had to throw up in 2 weeks now. I am almost 18 weeks.
Anyhow - a few things I tried doing. I would do this every day, some days were better than others. I wore those seabands everyday, I made sure I had a snack every 2 hours like baby carrots, fruit, bread. What helped me early on was anything with lime or lemon. I chewed ginger gum, I also sometimes found relief just chewing really minty gum. I started taking B6 throughout the day and about 25mg at night along with half a unisom pill. Eventually I started taking Bonjesta which is basically the same as B6/Unisom. I also drank gingerale and added a tiny bit more ginger. |
Sometimes even carying a lemon or orange peel to sniff made me feel a tiny bit better. |
All that worked for me was cold lemonade, sucking sour candies, and small things to nibble (dry Cheerios were a fave). It gets so much better. Good luck! |
Anything ginger. Even just the smell of ginger made me feel better. |
