At what age do you let your children give holiday gifts to their friends?

Just curious, as I know my kindergartener would love to do this. He hasn't asked, but I know he would enjoy giving gifts to his friends.

I have 12 yo and 16 yo DSs. They’ve never asked; it’s more common amongst the girl friend group.

When they are toddlers, we started making “gifts” (cards, maybe a picture or two) for anyone they love. Starts with parents, siblings, grandparents. Up to the child about who else to include and when.

My son started last year, with the exception of one friend he’s given to for years. He was 12 last year. This year he is using his own money.

Middle school. 6th or 7th grade.

My boys are 11 and 15 and they've also never asked.

2 DD's and it started in preschool.

Around 7 or 8. My 8 year old just bought her friends gifts.

This seems bizarre for much more than a best friend. They don’t have their own money....so they are giving gifts. You are.

Well, duh. But it’s the thought that counts.

When they are old enough to agree with their friends that they want to exchange gifts. Keep it simple.

When I was a kid, I exchanged homemade gifts with my friends. I used fabric scraps and made them stuffed animals.
