We have had our new nanny for 3 months and are giving her a generous cash bonus, but I also want to get her a little gift as well. Any ideas for a nice little gift that is under $50 that she will appreciate? I honestly don’t know what she likes yet which is why I am stuck. Is something like a scarf too generic? A candle? Thanks
My back up is a nice frame with a picture of my kids in it, but I am not sure that is something she would love (I know that sounds weird). |
Avoid giving picture of your children. to caregivers. Chances are she has 100s of picture of them already.
Earrings, necklace, sweater, mitts, something hand made from the kids, a nice note are other ideas. |
I’m a nanny and love getting printed and framed photos of my charges! My favorite is a frame with “I love my nanny” inscribed on it. Something thoughtful (in the true sense of the word) is always the best gift. Remembering something she said she liked or complimented you on. |
I think if you’re giving her a cash bonus the gift can just be a card made by the kids.
But a box of pretty chocolates from the chocolate store at 18th and Florida is a great <$50 option. They have beautiful, colorful chocolates from different makers and will pack a custom box for you with a handwritten “map” and a nice ribbon. |
Nanny here. The most important thing is a handwritten card telling her what she means to you and to your child. If your child is old enough to help color the card or just tell you something he/she likes about the nanny (e.g., “Nanny sings itsy bitsy!”) that is great! As for a physical gift, is there anywhere she tends to stop for lunch with your child? Or is there any snack or beverage that she usually drinks during her workday? |
