Metro plans to raise rush hour fares by as much as $.15 to a minimum of $2.40. The top rush hour fare could rise by as much as $1 for a total up to $7. Many bus routes will be cut, and some metro services may stop at certain hours.
https://wtop.com/tracking-metro-24-7/2019/12/metro-considers-larger-fare-hike-major-bus-changes/ This is what happens when you decriminalize fare stealing. You force everyone else to subsidize law breaking behavior to cover the losses. How bad could this encourage more people to drive? Will this decrease riders even more, sending the Metro into a death spiral of constant rate hikes that lead to more and more rider losses? |
| Exactly. Law abiding riders are being forced to subsidize DC’s thugs and fellow freeloaders. |

“On the Metrobus system alone, there were 9.3 million cases of fare evasion in the first 10 months of 2018, adding up to $25 million annually in lost fares.“
