| Any experience Greenlight vs GoHenry vs FamZoo? Looking to do it for 13y old for Christmas. |
| We have Greenlight. It’s been good for a 12 year old. Easy to use, to transfer money, to monitor. To add allowance. To save and set interest rates... |
| We have Capital One money account, for which the teens have a debit card attached. Super easy... |
| Our kids have PNC accounts with debit cards. They’re linked to my account so I can help monitor. |

My youngest has a student checking account with USAA. He has a debit card attached to his account. It’s easy to transfer money into his account. And all ATM fees are reimbursed, regardless of what machine he uses. Plus, it’s USAA.
/USAA member for 30 years. |
| Serious question: don't kids just do this for themselves anymore? I remember this being just a normal thing that kids did when they started needing access to their money. Like when they got a job at 14 or 15, for example. Is that no longer the case? |
NP. What do you mean? I was 13-14 in the mid-80s and my parents helped me navigate cc etc. |
| DD has used Greenlight for two or three years and it’s been wonderful. Funds are transferred instantly, card is accepted everywhere. I have no complaints. It’s made life so much easier. DD never has to be reliant on anyone else if she is somewhere without DH or me and needs more money. |
| Greenlight simply for the convenience. Plus you can use with Apple Pay. |
| My kids have Bank of America debit cards linked to their own accounts that are set up under my account. It's free! I didn't want to pay for any of those other services. |
My kids have similar set up with M&T bank. Set up some ground rules for use in advance. |
|
We are going to trial with Greenlight. So far they have been amazingly responsive.
They have accounts linked to mine under BOA, but I liked the additional features of Greenlight. |
Can you explain what you mean by linked to their accounts but set up under your account? The debit card draws money from the kids' accounts -- but you can see transactions? |
I got a job at 12, and then a "real" job at 14. I had a checking account then. I did not get a credit card until I was 17 and had my driver's license. It was to be used in an emergency only, and the bill went to my dad. I think I never used it, and around 21 or 22 handed it back to my dad and said I didn't need it anymore. |
Not PP but another BofA customer and yes. My teens accounts work exactly as you does arise. I can use my mobile app to transfer money to or from their accounts. When they use the app they have access only to their own accounts. |
