Gift for a nerdy, non fashion focused 12 year old girl

Anonymous
I have a nerdy, non-fashion inclined 12 year old daughter and I have no idea what to get her for Christmas! She’s not into video games, she’s not into fashion, she’s not really into appearances (no mani-pedi type things for her). She loves fantasy books and mythology, so I will be getting her some books and/or a barns and noble gift card. But it seems like such an “adequate” gift (not in a good way) compared to all the toys and busy things her sister will get (her sister is younger.
And before someone tells me I have to ask her: I did. She said “uh... I don’t know.”

Trip to an escape room?

What electronics does she have? Is this a good year for a kindle? For us, the kindle was the first step in electronics.

Go on Etsy and search for some of the things she’s into. You can get tons of fan girl stuff there, like totes or tees with quotes from her favorite books, stickers for water bottles, earrings with Star Wars characters, etc.
also, is there no tech stuff she wants? Pop sockets, cell phone holder etc?
Also mine likes cozy stuff for reading — fluffy socks and robe, comfy pillows, etc.

Also, not sure why, but my girl that age loves the boogie board for writing notes to herself—reminders, etc.

The Bookish box has both books and themed accessories. If you know what fantasy she likes, Culture Fly is fun and having 25% off today.

Does she like to bake? Get a cupcake decorating kit.
Monopoly Deal is a fun card game.
Knitting stuff or Science experiment kit.

I got my nerdy 12 year old a dissection kit for her birthday...she loved it. Best gift for her. Shes getting a frog and some other things to dissect for Christmas...not alive! She also loves legos (still), books about cool/strong women, science kits, and psychology books. Obviously...very science focused. But might be something there for you.

Would she be into a new "game" - Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons are 2 ideas. And there might be opportunities to being her to game nights at local libraries / toy stores.

My 11 YO and 13 YO are into -
The Office
Friends
Parks and Rec

If there is anything any of these shows related, they are loving it.

Would she be interested in a VR Headset? DD's friend loves hers and DD wants one -- they use it to ride virtual roller coasters and "visit" different places. This one looks interesting because of the cube and additional apps:

If she likes baking, maybe a frosting set and bold food coloring for icing:

Cake pop kit (this one seems way overpriced - I think we got something similar for $20?)

Games:

What do you Meme?

Sequence

Super Fight

My husband bought a TV for our daughter’s “big” Christmas present. I didn’t agree to it, but it turned out to be great since it kept her off YouTube as she binged her way through The Office and Parks and Rec, etc.

Does she craft at all? Knitting, cross stitch, embroidery all have great gifting potential

my daughter seems very similar to yours....on her list she included.... a rubix cube shaped in an octagon?....a lava lamp....the battleship board game....a robot kit to build....stickers (random ones that they can stick on binders etc)

MacBook Air
Camera
Book on video editing or coding for her level
Skateboard
Calvin and Hobbes or whatever her comic taste is. I personally dislike how manga depicts women and girls
I wish there still was sassy magazine. I loved it at this age
Science fiction books

Similar 13 YO DD. Mine loves Legos (still) but particularly enjoys the huge kits and Lego City, but there are Lego Ninjago, fantasy and Star Wars kits to name but a few.

DD also asks for brain teaser type solo games (she's a fan of Rubiks Cube) every year.

Does your DD like drawing or sketching? Last year we gave DD a nice sketch pad, colored pencils and drawing markers with brush tips.

Anything for DD's room? A large pillow?

Tote bag? Duffle bag?
