My 3.5 year old watches 10-20 minutes of tv on my phone while I get dressed in the mornings. She likes Give a Mouse a Cookie, Dora, Daniel Tiger and other “story-based” slow-moving shows. She doesn’t like Sesame Street because there aren’t consistent stories—e.g. she will get into a little story with big bird, and all of the sudden it switches to a cartoon about something else. She will come find me and say “I want the bird back! It switched to a new show!”
Anyway, I’m wondering if there are other shows that focus on numbers and letters like Sesame Street, but are more of a “story” with a little plot as opposed to the short vignettes of Sesame Street. I figure that if I’m going to let her watch a show in the mornings, she might as well get some time reinforcing letters and numbers (she enjoys being about to recognize letters in books, but only knows about half of them so far). She rejects things that are “scary,” or “too fast.” Anyway, if your kids have favorite shows that have some focus on letters, let me know the name of the show (and where you can stream it!) Thanks so much!!! |
Super Why. Not sure where it can be streamed currently, but I'm sure a quick web search will tell you. |
My kids liked Word World. Seasons 1-4 are on Prime video and I think they’re still on the PBS kids app. |
I teach K and I feel like parents don't want to hear this, but please reconsider this notion of giving your child a screen while you get ready. It is robbing her of learning to amuse herself for small periods of time.
If you would like to teach her letters, you could get her this and let her play with it in the morning instead. https://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-Fridge-Phonics-Magnetic-Letter/dp/B00JLHVX36/ref=zg_bs_166292011_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YEA64VQCF7K569S6YS47 |
Another vote for Super Why - my kids loved it. |
YouTube has old episodes of the Electric Company. I'm not sure how well it fits your requirement for a continuous plot, but you could check it out. |
My daughter has an alphabet rug in her play room, which we used to teach her letters. |

I loved Word World when my kids were little! |
+2 to Super Why. It is available on the PBS kids app. |
Super Why is the best for this. PBS Kids app! |
My kid who seemed kind of weak on his letters suddenly got them after he got into super why. |
Letter Factory! It teaches the letter with the sound each letter makes. |
