| How good does one (specifically girls) need to be to make their high school tennis team? Are all the players the caliber of those who play national tournaments/practice multiple days a week at one of the intense tennis academies? Or is there a range of players? |
|
I’m an adult now, but I went to State all four years of high school. Played lots of tournaments through USTA. During the off season school year I played 3 times a week. During the summer I played M-F all day and attended tournaments.
Put down my racquet my senior year of high school and don’t play anymore. |

This is going to vary a lot by school. In another city and state, DD’s varsity team was comprised of a lot of girls who were good but didn’t even do tournaments. Only the top 3 did them and outside training.
I would expect it to be far more competitive here, like everything. |
| Depends on where you’re located |
In schools like TJ, McLean, Langley and Oakton, very competitive because those players, at least the starters, are trained years round at local country clubs like Bend and Westwood or places like regency. Outside of those schools, not very competitive. |
