I Hate Being Home..

Anonymous
I'm on maternity leave and I'm over it. My son ( Connor) was born in September and I go back to work in January. I love him so much and enjoy spending every moment with him, but it's boring. My whole day consists of feeding and watching him sleep. I feel like I'm confined to a chair or the couch since he feeds for 30-60 minutes every 2-3 hours. The rest of the time he is sleeping with short amount of awake times. I'm an introvert but I am bored. I have been craving human contact, but I have no one to hang out with. I know I will wish for this time again when things get crazy, but right now I really wish I could be back at work.

Normal. The thing that sucks about such a short leave is you have to go back before the baby starts getting interesting. You never really get to make a mom tribe and do fun things with baby.

Why not join a moms group or take him to some infant classes?

A 2 month old doesn't need infant classes. That's a huge waste of time and money.

-1 It's a great way to socialize for the mom, especially one like OP who is craving human contact.

OP don't feel bad at all. Not everyone is right for staying at home with young children. It's ok to look forward to returning to work and finding that work-life balance. You can still be a fantastic, loving and caring mom who isn't always at home.

No! The classes are for the caregiver, not the baby!

It sounds like OP's baby will be miserable since he basically just eats and sleeps. Those classes are expensive and waste of money for a 2 month old.

All two months old eat and sleep a lot but that doesn't mean they don't have interaction time. I started all my babies at classes from an early age. Had fun, met some nice moms, and learned some ideas/songs/games for how to play with infants that I didn't know before.

You could be reading, talking to people on the phone, watching TV, or doing all kinds of things online. You could visit friends and family. You could go for walks or to museums, shopping malls, etc. There's no reason you should be bored just because Connor is eating or sleeping.

Go to the moms group! Mine had activities every day. Wineries, movies, lunches, stroller walks and coffee shops.

Get a baby carrier then go about your usual life getting manicures going shopping going for walks, seeing friends etc.

It is lonely, OP. Try to get out more with the baby - you can nurse anywhere. Go out and see friends, get ready for the holidays, even go to a baby-friendly movie (the volume is turned down and it’s geared for new parents). I promise you it gets better.

Also make sure he is hungry for every feed and stays awake at the breast. They do get faster and more efficient but you have to help them a bit.
