Yard Ideas - Christmas

Anonymous
We have five active kids (three in elementary school, a baby and a toddler). We would LOVE to find some great ideas for yard games/equipment that could keep our oldest three busy and engaged outside. They play sports and are busy with school most of the week but when they play in our yard on the weekend, they lose interest after a few rounds of tag and want to come back inside. We've seen some amazing monkey bar sets out of Australia but nothing we've been impressed with in the U.S. because the sets are often boring/for smaller kids. What active and fun yard equipment/games would you recommend?

Gaga ball pit if you have the space and the neighborhood population for it! Super fun game and kids play for HOURS.

Trampoline—comes with obvious risks and possible hike to homeowners insurance.

Bow and rubber tipped arrows. Still don’t point it at anyone.

Nerf guns.

Bocce or croquet set

Zip line (see above re: injuries)

Slack line (more about balance)

Awesome! Anyone else? We should have noted that our yard is at an incline. Not super steep but steep enough to make the trampoline an actual death trap. That was our first idea :/. Please keep them coming!

You can do in ground trampoline with barrier so kids don’t flip down a hill:

If you want to do a zip line, check out Beauvoir playground.

NP here - I'd LOVE an inground trampoline, who knew? That would keep kids from getting stuck between net and tramp, and most of the other issues, huh?

That looks equally dangerous without a net as they could bang into the walls or something else.

Trampolines do pose dangers. A net is not going to prevent injuries, but add a net to an in ground or not. Add padded barriers or better yet a pricker bush. Let your kid bleed if they go off side.

We have a swing ball set. It is a common game in other countries but you can get the set off amazon. It is great for elementary age.

You probably need something for climbing and something for hiding in. I would focus on those two things.

If you live in one of them bigger McMansion with one of them bigger lots, you should be
able to easily build this thing. Just summon your gardener and your butler one afternoon
and order some wood from da Depot and within few hours you should be able to
enjoy some serious outdoorsy good ol' fun.

Somebody said trampolines? Oh they are fun! And they bring business to the local ERs big time!
