How the area has changed

I was born and raised in montgomery county . When I was a kid you’d constantly see pickup trucks with shotgun racks. Not any more but crime is up

Crime is up since when exactly? Be specific. Here’s a chart of the last 42 years which pretty clearly shows that it’s down.

Correlation does not equal causation.

MoCo schools are actually pretty good, so you must have missed that lesson.

This chart is shocking when you consider the population explosion in MoCo since 1974 (when the chart begins). In those years MoCo went from mostly rural (hence the pickup trucks with shotgun racks) to mostly urban/suburban.

So much for that argument huh OP?
Nah dude what's up is media sources. When you were a kid there weren't 5,000 local blogs and internet sites blowing dogwhistles 24/7 and there wasn't social media. The crime isn't up your input overload is.

When OP was a kid, the county was mostly white and US-born. That's what's up with the OP's perception.

Not prosecuting crimes doesn’t mean crime isn’t happening or increasing

so are you saying not white and foreign born are good? Odd how you can celebrate demographic shifts

When I moved here in 1994 there was still a dairy farm on Rockville Pike. I don't remember gun racks though.

Seeing more non-white people around doesn't mean crime is up, OP. Cite a single source that says MoCo crime is up from when you were a kid.

The reason is mentioned crime is up is despite all the increased gun control montgomery county is a less safe place than it used to be

From what I hear from people I know: white people feel less safe as the demographics of the area change. Same thing that I heard in Michigan and Pennsylvania when I lived there.

People don't believe the crime statistics and it would be really good if we could turn back the clock.

It certainly was not true in lower Mont county. But, there were farm use pickups in the Bethesda area during the 80s as there were farms in the area. So the rural to urban undertones are correct.
