I saw in another post a reference to the National Cathedral having its own parishioners. Is that right? Are they generally folks from the neighborhood? Embassies? St. Albans School or National Cathedral School families? |
Yes, the Cathedral has a congregation. Dh and I are members, though our attendance is sporadic. There is a nursery for kids 4 and under which has helped our attendance a lot!
The congregation is relatively new, started about 3 years ago, though there are members who have attended services regularly for years before there was an official congregation. A couple times are year there are cocktail parties hosted by congregation members so we can get to know each other in a smaller setting. There is also a 20s-30s group - some of whom are congregation members, some not - which organizes monthly brunches, outings, etc. We joined for a number of reasons, not the least of which is Dean Lloyd whose sermons always have timely and relevant themes. In addition, the clergy are on the more progressive side of the Episcopalian church, and it is a very open and welcome atmosphere for the services. Another benefit is getting preference for Christmas and Easter service passes. From what I can tell, many members live in the area, but are also scattered all over NW DC and beyond. |
