Are we supposed to bring our child as well, or are these parent-only events? |
I have not brought my child (1st grader) because explaining that he may be changing schools would be TMI. There have been kids on tours (primarily 3 and 4 year olds) and overall, I have found it distracting as another person on the tour to have a preschooler along. It can really interfere the whole group's ability to experience the school.
I was on a tour at Stokes after kids were admitted, where newly admitted kids (after the lottery in the spring) were on the tour. That made more sense. If a website isnt' clear about whether kids would be welcome, call ahead. |
I took my chld to the open houses. A good way to see how the staff interacted with her. But, I guess it depends on your child. |
OP here. Thanks for both these responses! This is for 3-yo programs, so I think it would be a bit much for our little one. |
Depends on where you go. In general, probably no, these are for parents only, as there can be many, many people visiting at once. But you should check with the charter school. |
Check with the school-although I didn't. I took my 3 year old to the open houses at Haynes, 2rivers, LAMB and a couple of others. I wasn't the only parent there with their child. The schoools welcomed the children that were there. My child was able to interact with a few of the 3 year old teachers and I was able to see how they would interact with her. I told my little one that we were going to look at schoools. She was ok with it...hey she is was 3. I was able to introduce "School" to her this way. |
