| My twins start kindergarten next year and I am trying to determine if I should keep them in their private or put them in our local public. They cap at 16 kids at their private school until I think 3rd grade where it caps at 20. What are the class sizes you are seeing in PG and what area are you in. I'm in Bowie, MD. |

I am a Kindergarten teacher and the class sizes are large. I can have up to 30 kids before they *think* about hiring another teacher to split the class. We also do not have Teacher Assistants. I heard the better the school, the larger the class (i.e. I know a teacher at Barack Obama who had 28 students in her K class?).

WOW those large sizes and no assistants? That’s ridiculous |

It really depends on the school. Over enrolled schools have larger classes sizes because they don't have spare classrooms to add an additional teacher.
I have had 3 kids go through K at the same school. Their class sizes ranged from 18-23 students. The school they go to has a dedicated aide for the grade level. So K has 4 teachers and one aide. There are also special educators, reading specialists, math specialists, and ESOL teachers rotating through the class. The Principal makes smaller class sizes in the primary grades a priority. |

Yep. My kid is in private for this exact reason. |
It REALLY depends on the school and the school year. My kids school's K classes range from 15-18 kids this year. |
