Is there parking in front of the Natural History and/or Air Space Museum during weekdays

Grandparents are visiting and wanted to take my youngest there with them during the week. We have only been there on weekends before. I think there is some tricky parking in the afternoon from what I remember years ago. Not sure what morning weekday parking is like.

It's always pretty tough. But the grandparents will need to walk a lot when there- can they not manage to walk a few blocks?

My father can't walk far distances although he insists that he can. I don't mind dropping them off and looking for parking. Not sure if I trust my parents to watch my toddler though since my dad himself needs to be taken care of.

Yes, if you can get there right when street parking opens up. I can't remember if that's 9 or 10 but if you're there right when you can start parking you should be able to get a spot. We used to do this when the kids were smaller.

Yes, the far right lanes of Independence and Constitution Avenues are travel lanes before 9:30, but at 9:30, they open for metered parking. I’ve had no problem getting a spot on the weekdays in front of the museums if you get there by 9:45 or so on a weekday. Museums open at 10, so we either wait in the car or walk around outside the museums for a bit.

Your parents need to get a handicap parking placard and bring it with them for your car.

They do have a handicap tag for their car. Can they get one to take with them? Did not realize that was a thing.

They won’t be the only ones looking for handicapped spot. Have them take a taxi or uber with one of you. Spouse drives kid and parks farther away.

Yes, the placards go with the person. They can cross state lines.

My husband will be working. I will just drive and try to get there right before 9:30.

If not right in front you can try right behind on Jefferson Drive or Madison.

Where are you starting? Can you park at a metro station?

On 4th st NW (between air and space and botanic gardens.) Arrive at 9:20 and sit in the car until rush hour ends at 9:30. I did this many times with my toddler. Guaranteed spots.
