Amtrak Auto Train Coupon Codes?

Anonymous
In looking at the Amtrak auto train, there's a filed to enter a coupon code. Does anyone have any codes or know how to get them? The fares are really expensive even with the child discount and I was wondering if there's a way to get lower fares. Thanks!

I don't know of any fare deals but agree that there should be. We're driving down this April but I'd much rather take the Auto Train if it was at all affordable. As it is, it makes no sense to take it.

It doesn’t save you time, you could fly 4 people and rent a a car for cheaper, it is designed for snowbirds. Child discount on rooms, sleepers, auto train mean nothing.

Why do you want to take auto train. If under 70 no benefit.

Not OP, but my family enjoys it. I don't care for flying and we consider the train, as part of the vacation.

I have never actually seen a coupon code though.

I love the auto train. It does go on sale once in a while, but never at school breaks etc. It’s normally more expensive at those times.

Seriously!
I've seen people talk about the auto train for a week vacation in Florida and all I can say is "Why?!?!?!?"

Whenever I've priced it out it's so much more expensive than flying, but takes even LONGER than driving yourself because you have to arrive early to get your car boarded, then hangout (I've heard for hours!) to get your car unloaded!

Plus you are trapped for that 15-16 hours. And it is not like you can see anything out of the windows at night.

I'll tell you why. My family does not enjoy flying, and by taking the Auto Train, it saves us like 17 hours of driving. Also, the Auto Train goes in both directions as some people taking the train are not taking vacations in Florida, but are traveling to other places. It's not for everyone, but it exists for a reason.

What are you talking about? How does it save you more time than it takes to drive?
You can only take your car on and off in Lorton Va and Sanford FL.
Yes people take the train to other places, it still doesn’t save time going south. You are paying a steep premium to take your car
with you.

My wife doesn’t like to fly and really doesn’t like long car trips but the auto train doesn’t make sense for a vacation scenario.

I think OP meant she doesn't have to drive, not train is faster than driving

I like the auto train because I can work and rest on and off. When we drive to Florida I am either driving or resting when DH is driving. On the train we both take turns working and get a lot more done. Also I like avoiding traffic, construction, gas stops, and all that.

My point is the AutoTrain doesn’t save 17 hours of driving. You wouldn’t be driving for 17 hours from Lorton to Sanford. And the work argument is ridiculous, train is overnight. You aren’t working through the night. The time/hassle/money saved by driving you could be working in a hotel business center, a desk in your room, or a nice restaurant and be a lot more productive.

Not OP, I've taken auto train twice. I'm way under 70. It is helpful if you are hauling a lot of stuff in your car and don't want to drive non stop.
Prices are higher around the holidays and winter months.

Yes it does save you money even without coupon but better pricing is non winter months and not around holidays.
