I'm not sure why the negativity about the auto train in this thread. I've seen families on the auto train and a lot of
folks with motorcycles. It is fun. OP--I've put in my AAA discount and get that when buying on the Amtrak website. |
Buying in advance will get you better pricing. Be aware
pricing around Christmas will be high and the snowbirds book Nov/Dec/Jan pricing years in advance. Use your AAA discount. Book for non snowbird times of year. |
Because it doesn’t make sense for 99.9% of people. And most people don’t think things all of the way through. |
AAA discounts on Amtrak have been discontinued. |
And some people realllllly overthink things, especially something that there is no chance of them doing anyways! I don't fly, but you won't find me in airline threads, critisizing everyone who does. Looking foward to another Auto Train trip late 2020! I have the Amtrak Rewards Mastercard and will have enough points for a free trip! |
Wouldn’t do it even if it was free. I value my time and that is a time suck. |
You might get discounts on the trainfare and even $50 for a person but the auto price is never discounted! So, you might end up paying $100 for the trainfare but the auto price is still over $250....then you feel ripped off.
If the auto train costs more than the car rental total price, then it's not worth it. |
