Formula for newborn at Georgetown?

Anonymous
Anyone had any recent experiences with requesting to formula feed after delivery at Georgetown? Will they provide formula throughout your stay or do you have to bring your own?

I think they are Baby Friendly which means they make it harder to access formula so I would bring my own. But I’d also discuss with my OB ahead of time and ask to have it put in my chart that I expected my feeding preferences to be fully honored by the hospital.

I had no problems. They provided it. I was firm and didnt get any pushback. My baby was there for two weeks and I don't think I would have been allowed to give her formula from outside the hospital actually

I was there in 2017 and they were VERY pushy (slash supportive) of breastfeeding but I believe they were going through recertification for Baby Friendly status so they may have toned it down since then. However, my OBs have always asked during appts if I planned to breastfeed and then my L&D nurse asked again—so I think as long as you are clear that you won’t be then you won’t have issues. They 100% have formula available and won’t let babies starve so just don’t be wishy washy and get yourself a visit from an LC if you know breastfeeding isn’t for you.
