Where do I buy...

one of those cute fashionable parkas some women are wearing? NOT the big down sleeping bags, but those parkas that have some really cute details like buttons or cinched waists, etc.? I can't find them at the stores.

Wait until after Xmas for the sales. There are two places to find really cute trendy stuff: on the high-end, go to Bloomies, Neiman's, and Saks. By mid-january, most things are only mildly picked-over, but you can get stuff 70% off. On the low end, H&M and Urban Outfitters has that stuff, but you have to dig, otherwise, you'll end up looking like a 16 y.o.

I'm not a big fan, 17:44...
I think it looks like a giant newspaper.

I don't think the outdoor stores offer stylish parkas - they are more utilitarian in nature. If you want stylish, go to a store that offers style like Bloomies, Juicy Couture, etc.

Bloomingdales in Friendship Heights has a whole slew of them, most of them marked down significantly.

Personally, I love my Patagonia "down sleeping bag". It is long and keeps me soooo warm. Covers my butt when I sit in the car so not cold on the leather seats. Went out to play in the blizzard with my DD and was toasty.

I admit that I like it, too, but you definitely can't have too many curves!

Macy's had some cute ones, but I ended up getting one that was slightly more utilitarian because I wanted to be able to remove the fur part of the hood without removing the whole hood. Most of the parkas I saw had fur-trimmed hoods that looked kind of mangy.

Tommy Hilfiger and Guess had cute short puffer coats with girlie details. North Face has some nice simple parkas, but they don't have much in the way of cute details, and they are pretty pricey. ($200+)
