I bought a 2019 CX-5 which I mostly love. I passed on the ridiculously overpriced leather (ette) and paint protection plan, but then afterwards googled Mazda paint problems. Apparently, some people have noticed paint flaking and chipping. The dealer was going to use Xzilon, which I have yet to read a positive review on. Does anything work?
Also interested in what can be done to prevent the vinyl and dash/steering wheel from scuffing. TIA! |

Mazda just has soft and easily-chipped paint, not much you can do about it and definitely not something "paint protectant" would have any effect on.
The fake leather should not require any maintenance. |
| It's a Mazda, not a Bughatti Veyron. The next buyer 10 years from now won't give a damn or pay extra because you scotchguarded the seats or fell for the dealer clear coat option. |
| The biggest enemy of leather and leatherette is abrasion. Keep the seats clean and you'll be fine. Also, don't wear jeans. The gussett rivets will eventually do a number. |
I’ve had leather for 15 years (3 different cars) and wear jeans almost daily (SAHM) without issue. No rips or abrasions. |
