DD will be a rising high school senior this summer, and wants to go to Latin America to improve her Spanish this summer. Any recommendations for good programs for teens in Latin America? She's not interested in Spain, only Latin America. Thank you!
I’m looking for this too - my ideal program for my 13 year old would be baseball Spanish immersion, since the only way I’ll get him to work on language is if he’s doing something he loves. Somehow I doubt I’m going to find what I’m looking for!
Check out AFS programs. They're not cheap, but they're more reputable than most.

Concordia Villages has a nice reputation, but Minnesota is far from Latin America.

My kid did a Spanish /surf camp in Costa Rica, but I can't recommend it. The Spanish instruction was weak and random.
Not Latin America, but Middlebury College does 6+ week immersion language programs for college students and middle and high school students which are hugely effective (and expensive - $6k-$10k for the summer) worth checking out.
My son did Broadreach. The Spanish school he attended in Costa Rica used a 1 teacher; 2 student ratio and sent them on great activities in the town. Shopping scavenger hunts; activities with local kids, etc. They spent the weekends doing high adventure outings. Highly recommend!
Check out Amigos - they are probably taking applications now. Not for everybody (it’s like a Jr. Peacecorps) - but it’s life changing. My DS and 3 of my sisters’ kids also participated. There is a lot of training leading up to the trip.

They have a program where part of it is abroad. Middlebury College programs is expensive but has a great reputation |
Concordia College is a well established US camp immersion program.
I did both Concordia and Amigos. Concordia as a rising 10th graded and Amigos as a rising 11th grader. Both helped my Spanish skills. Both had good parts and bad parts. This was 30 years ago. I’ll answer questions if you are interested in those long ago experiences.
I think there is actually a DC based baseball camp/ coach that does a camp in the DR. I can't remember name of it but I've seen it in Google searches |
The midd program is more like 12.5K.
