A good start

This may not be the wave of the future, or even a relatively important trend in the near future, but Amherst’s search beyond the usual tournaments, teams and even sports for college athletes is the more thoughtful kind of recruiting that elite colleges should do on the academic side as well. They are not going to find future pros, but they will find good young women and men who can contribute to their teams and campuses and not be another cookie-cut product from the youth soccer over. Their search for diversity is rather ham-fisted. I can tell you from personal experience that diversity is the very first thing they ask about. It took about 2 minutes to figure out with this school that if you were not diverse, they were not interested.

Amherst is D3. They should not be looking for future pros. Those types of athletes are not going there. It does not matter what color they are.

And they are not. They are looking for people who will own MLS teams, not play on them.
