My daughter could do this at 5.
My son is 9 and still can’t manage the coordination-we have watched YouTube videos, tried different methods, bought this laces book, still no progress. He has horrible handwriting so maybe just poor fine motor skills? I am at a loss. |
Without help 7.
WE showed her at 6 and and she could do it not tighten it enough and it would come undone at school. Now she is 7 she can do it so its tight and they stay done up. |
Son who isn’t super independent is 6.5 and can do it without help. |
9. Kids are different. Stay calm. It’ll come soon. |
PP here. It took private swim lessons for my ten yr old to pass the patch test this year!!! I have rather uncoordinated kids maybe yours is too. Karate has been a good help for this but it’s hard for him too. On the plus side, he’s really smart and naturally has an athletes body which makes it all the more weird that he’s so uncoordinated.
But I was the same way. Let it go and stay calm. He’s doing the best he can. |
It clicked for my daughter around 7. She’s 8 now and can do it but they’re still sloppy and come untied more than when I do it. I try not to do it for her because practice is what will improve it, but I do occasionally when we’re headed to an activity where I know she really needs them to stay tied.
I haven’t even attempted with my 5yo. He still likes to tell me he can’t get dressed or put on Velcro shoes without help (not actually true) so I think shoe thing is a lost cause right now. |
My DS was 9. He always wore Velcro sneakers because he always got frustrated trying to tie laces. At 9 he switched to laced sneakers because none of his friends were wearing Velcro anymore and it took him a few months to get it TBH even at 10 he’s still not doing a good tie - his laces are always coming untied. |
By 9 or 10 |
DD1 was 8 or 9, but she also has a mild form of cp. I think my other DD was 5 or 6 |
5 for two of my kids, and one was 7. |
Shoe tieing is not an indication of anything. Most girls start being able to do it at 5. My son was 7 and couldn't do it. I started pre-tieing his shoes, and stopped checking his shoe tieing abilities. He's 12 now, Super smart and athletic, and still pre-ties his shoes. Shoes don't need to be tied everyday. Tie the shoes super tight where he can slid his feet in and out. No Velcros needed. |
Fastest way to wear out the heel counter. |
Take your child to Shoe Train in Cabin john Mall and ask them to teach her. Our son learned from a book, our DD, 15, still uses the Shoe Train method- something about a rabbit running around the tree and down through the hole... |
Mine just turned nine and just started. |
Really? Do you outsource all parenting? |
