Does anyone know what other "new information" can be helpful for a GT Center appeal in Ffx County besides more testing? I have searched all over the FCPS website where it says there is a form detailing this info, but I cannot find it. I know they send an appeal form with the letter of denial but I am concerned that by the time I get that, I will have almost no time to secure the "new information."
By way of background, DS's WISC scores (individual IQ) test were already submitted so there's no reserving them for an appeal. Should I get him tested with an alternate individual IQ test? The group tests at GMU aren't offered til Jan 8th; appeal deadline is the 15th so no help there. Thks for any guidance! |
| I'm sorry I don't know the answer, but I'm planning to meet with the GT Specialist at our school to talk about my child's file, and I plan to ask her some questions about the appeal process. If I find out anything that might be helpful, I'll come back and post (after the break). |
http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/faqs.html What are procedures for appealing an ineligibility decision? Parent/guardians of students not selected for the full-time AAP (level IV) center program may submit an appeal. Only parents or guardians may submit an appeal. Appeal information is contained in the ineligibility letter. Appeals must contain new information not contained in the original screening file. Parents/guardians of an FCPS student may obtain a copy of the screening file from the local school Advanced Academic Resource Teacher. The new information along with the Full-time AAP (Level IV) Appeal Form, available at www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/forms.html, is submitted to the Advanced Academic Programs coordinator according to the timeline. How is the appeal decision made? The new data is added to the original screening file for review by the appeals committee. The Advanced Academic Programs office notifies the parents/guardians and the local school of the appeals committee decision by the end of July. The decision of the appeals committee is final. Can ineligible students be screened again? Yes, students found ineligible for the full-time AAP (level IV) center may be considered for school-based advanced academic services at the local school. Parents/guardians of ineligible students may also refer their child for level IV center screening the following year according to the published timeline. Contact: Carol.Horn@fcps.edu (703) 846-8670 |
| The blurb from the website, while helpful about the process, really does not explain what would constitute "new information." |
| Well, it seems obvious, but it is anything not in the original packet. Typically it is test scores. So you could include new test scores from different tests (SB, OLSAT, acheivement tests, etc.) But it can also be letters of recommendation, new awards, work samples, certificates, etc. |
| Why people even talk about appeal process when the 2nd grade pool is not even started? |
| The process starts earlier for people coming in from private schools. |
| I posted this on a related thread, but probably should have posted here -- Have any November applicants received their letters yet? Also, does anyone know whether, if you are a non-FCPS parent and your DC is not admitted based on the fille/application submitted in November 09, you can re-apply in the "2010 spring cycle" instead of (or even in addition to) using the appeal process? Thanks a lot! |
