As I also have a 9y old girl, we already have most of the standard toys. We have:
play kitchen and accessories legos galore magnatiles galore Barbie house art stuff (bracelet/necklace kits, paints, crayons/markers, etc) ice cream maker tons of barbie/princess like dolls mini pets/ petshop accessories science kits robot kits board games baby doll I am at a loss of what to get to my little one and would like suggestions. Here is what she LOVES and play with DAILY for hours with her little 6y old cousin: They play with the Barbie doll house accessories and princess/barbies like dolls - they make clothes for them out of wasabi tape. Or they cut socks and other pieces of clothes (!!) to make up their own stuff. They build houses with magnates and legos to play with said dolls and their pets (from mini pet shop set) They pretend play A LOT, CONSTANTLY (it is their favorite game) where one child is the baby and the other is the mom and they integrate their dolls/pets/stuff animal and change their clothes, diapers and feed them with pretend food (and sometimes real food). They do not play board games, robot kits, fort kit, etc. It is pretty much pretend play all day long with their dolls, barbie house accessories, play kitchen accessories and other tiny stuff. And lots of magnatiles and lego use, mostly to build houses for their "family." They just visited AG store and LOVED IT. My older child has 2 AG dolls that she never liked so I am giving them to the little one.... while my 5y old loved playing with AG doll and its accessories at the store, I was thinking about buying off brand accessories for the dolls we have.... but is it worth it? I mean, they always strip the dolls of their clothes and put them on "clothes" they make themselves. Also, maybe more barbie size dolls? Maybe with a car or something? Maybe more magnatiles? We have 3 or 4 sets already, but they use it all - all the time. |
Dress up costumes, eg:
https://www.magiccabin.com/en/narrow-by/best-selling-gifts/classic-cloaks/p/866705 Or toys like cash register: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/duktig-toy-cash-register-80256501/ Or tea set: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/duktig-10-piece-coffee-tea-set-multicolor-00130148/ |
We already have all that and they use it a lot too (with their pretend play). Honestly, at this point I am thinking of just getting more wasabi tapes (like a whole collection), some fabric cuts so they stop destroying perfect good socks, more legos and magnatiles and call it a day. I mean, she seems happy with what she already has and even though she does not use any of the "kits" as intended, she does use parts of it for her and her cousin's purpose. But I do need ONE special/big gift from Santa. |
My five year old desperately wants a "real" camera to take pictures of things she sees and her friends. |
An experience gift? Do they still do the American girl cafes where you can have lunch or tea? Or maybe take her to fancy tea somewhere else? |
Scooter or bike (and maybe with bike seat you attach for her doll like this https://www.target.com/p/our-generation-carry-me-18-34-doll-bicycle-seat/-/A-53088570) |
LOL dolls |
Get a karaoke machine. Expand on their dress up themes. And perhaps an experience. Christmas really is about time with those we love. |
She's may be too little but you could get her a simple sewing machine and lessons?
If you have dress up stuff then a dress up closet to hang it all in? |
Costumes! |
It seems like she really likes making clothes and accessories for her dolls. You could get her a large kit for making doll clothes. I know they have those, but she may be too young to do actual sewing. If they don't have one for her age, you could make one yourself by buying a lot of fabric scraps, fabric glue, ribbons and all sort of decorations and accessories and packaging it up nicely. |
Like you said, fabric and tape is a good idea
A camera is a good idea too as another poster said. My almost 5 year old loves his VTech camera. Don’t get her much if she already has so much that she enjoys playing with and doesn’t really need more. Just expand on what they already have (more legos or doll clothes or whatever) or give experience gifts. |
They sound exactly like my 5 year old twins with the pretend play all the time. I am getting them knock off AG dolls from Target w accessories - camping and sleepover, a ton of washi tape as they use it for everything, more markers as they use them constantly to make things for pretend play, some barbie accessories and Barbie jeep |
I'd get a large trunk or chest and fill it with dress up items. After Halloween there should be plenty on sale. |
My 5yo and 3yo are just like this. One thing I bought was a vintage looking school desk and chalkboard. They LOVE playing school. |
