Alex Morgan wants to play in the 2020 Olympics 4 months post-partum

The team is good enough that is will not matter. Rapinoe was way past her prime. The team was able to compensate. All it will cost is a leaving few goals on the table.

So? Plenty of women have easy pregnancies and easy deliveries and easy postpartum experiences. I was doing stroller strides 1 week postpartum. I was back at my sport at 4 weeks postpartum (the main hindrance was babysitters and leaving the baby, not my body)

4 weeks might be a problem, but 4 months is enough time for a focused elite athlete to get back on the game.

+1 Especially if she feels fine throughout her pregnancy. I had one pregnancy with no nausea or other issues at all, and I worked out almost every day during it, including going on long runs. If she is able to maintain her baseline fitness, and then get into training pretty quickly post baby, she should be in decent shape. It really all depends on how the pregnancy and delivery go.

So what? It's her life and her choice. Leave it here.

It's rare for an elite athlete to be back to peak performance after 4 months... but her performance at 4 months will still be better than most.

Exactly.

Unless you are a SAHM, don't you start working again after 3 months?

Same with her. It's easier when you have money.

You can't compare yourself to rich people.

Former competitive woman soccer player here--stopped playing at 22. I ran marathons, lifted, trained, exercised consistently once I gave the sport up. I have always exercised 5-6 days per week every week.

I was pregnant with my first at 34 and I exercised up until the day I gave birth---10 days after my due date. I had a very easy, uncomplicated pregnancy and I heard the longer the weight stays on the more likely it is to stay. I did not have a C-section and my labor was uncomplicated--no big tears, etc. I was up and moving right away. I strapped that fat baby in a baby Bjorn and was walking up steps, running by the end of the month, lifting. By 4 months out I was doing really great. Now---I wasn't 100% of my usual athletic self. BUT--I was 5 years older than Alex and did not have professional trainers or dieticians, therapists, etc. monitoring me and I gained 48 pounds during pregnancy . I did have all but 5 of it off by 4 months.

The biggest problem is your core. Core strength is negligent after giving birth. You really, REALLY need to work that back up. But--arms, legs, etc---you can still lift. I was running 5-6 miles up until 6-7 months and then was still doing weights and non-impact things like elliptical and swimming.

I gave birth to my 2nd at 37, also very easy pregnancy and exercised throughout--but at that age and being the 2nd it took al little longer to get back and I don't think I was ever 100% the same after. Weight-wise yes--but my running speed, and my hamstrings, etc took a hit.

My sister had C-sections for all 3 and that is a much bigger ordeal to recover from. Although she said knee surgery was worth than birth.

So many of these WNT players have made the team about themselves. Hope the coaching staff looks elsewhere for a fast player up top with a suspect first touch.

The Olympics are nowhere near as big a deal as the World Cup, especially for someone with her experience already. I think it'd be a nice chance for a younger player to step up. I get it that the women are fighting a HUGE battle against sexism in the game, but I think quietly playing it by ear may have been the better play here. Because now if she's overcommitted and can't play, she'll look worse.

My guess is she's not that rich. Google says her net worth is $3M, which is probably less than many people on here and I certainly don't think that buys you a full time chef and personal trainer.

Funny, I've never heard this criticism about a male soccer player.
