National Tree Lighting at White House with kid?

We won tickets this year to the National Tree lighting. I have no idea about how it works other than we need to be seated by 4:30. Is this an event we should bring our 3 yr old to or get a babysitter? Anyone know how late it goes to? Do they have near by bathrooms or just portable ones? Can you bring in snacks and water?

Any tips or info on how to make the most of it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It’s been a while since I was there but I don’t recommend it for kids. Long waits and cold.

No water. No real bathrooms. Long wait, freezing cold. Singing you can barely hear and then a tree lights up.

Kid will be miserable. I went to see Obama but unless you are into the first family at the time, not worth it.

No way I would bring a 3 yo to an event like this. Brought my 4 yo to the egg roll but there was a big payoff after waiting. I st sitting in the cold to wait for a tree to light up? Nuh. I’d get a sitter and make a date night out of it.

I brought a 2 yo, there are portapotties, the rules say no food, but I had a bag of snacks and water for my son, and it was no problem (stick it in a sippy cup so its clear its for the kid). It was waaaay less crowded than when Obama was in office, which made it a bit easier to manage. We left early, but were able to see the tree.

My DS got the presidential scholar award certificate signed by Dotard and he hates it! My oldest used to get ones signed by Obama and that was a source of pride.

Having the Dotard as a president degrades every good human being.

We went last year and not happily and it was terrible. It’s a big photo op for the president and nothing more. I joked to my husband that if we got invited again we must have pissed someone off.

PP here, yes, I know. My son was born in 2016 and we also brought him in 2016 which was a total mad house because it was the last Obama treelighting, but he was a baby and only drank breastmilk at the time, so much easier to manage. It was more for us than him.
