What is with these two (over)grown-ass men?
They fight over the Beltway/270 expansion They fight over Kirwan They fight over the transit corridor funding https://www.marylandmatters.org/2019/11/05/elrich-rips-hogans-priorities/ Now they fight over.... a flag? I didn't vote for Hogan, but I gave him credit for working decently well with Democrats in Annapolis and I recognize the merits of two-party governance. But why does he have to constantly pick fights with the Montgomery County Executive? Same goes for Elrich, why does he have to escalate everything to the extreme? Why the hyperbole? |
| Marc is a big baby. No idea about hogan. |
| Elrich is just a giant DB. |
|
Hogan is playing up his tribal bona fides for his base. His more rural constituents hate "the rich liberals" and "immigrants" in MoCo.
It's lame and all about identity politics. Expect Hogan to run a very divisive campaign when he runs for US Senate. |
Yup. He won't support Trump (although he won't disavow him by name either), so he has to try to stay in good with the Maryland Republicans in other ways, like attacking Montgomery County and Baltimore. |
You could just as easily say that Elrich is playing identity politics and trying to rev up his base on something like the flag issue. I think it is a bit silly all around, but assigning lame here seems to directly correlate with who you think is right on the issue. |
| Because they have different political agendas and priorities. Hogan prides himself on being a moderate Republican that can bridge the gap between the conservative Republicans and the liberal Democrats. He touts reaching across the aisle and coming up with moderate stances and positions to try and satisfy both sides. Elrich has a very, very liberal perspective and wants to push for progressive ideas. He has a predominantly liberal base in Montgomery County, but often what works for the county does not work for most of the rest of the state. Elrich wants to have very liberal and progressive policies in the county, but they often contradict or counter what Hogan is proposing for state-wide policies, like schooling and school budget funding. So they butt heads. |
Nope. Elrich's base doesn't need revving up. Whereas there is talk (not denied by Hogan) that he's planning to run for Senate. |
I'm involved a lot in local politics and this is a very fair assessment. |
Sounds very accurate to me. |
There's an increasingly growing group of MoCo residents, especially those in upcounty who cannot stand Elrich and his cronies. The county council and the BoE are screwing the middle class left and right and many are itching to vote those loonies out. |
People have been saying that for at least 15 years, and yet here we are. For whatever reason, most people in the upcounty don't want what you're selling. |
